Donkervoort Eyewear – See The Light

From Donkervoort Press Release

The future of Donkervoort is so bright, Donkervoort drivers have to wear shades. But not just any shades; the new range of Donkervoort Eyewear shades, with the all-new Donkervoort x Brett collection. And not just shades, but the Donkervoort x Brett collection is available as optical glasses, too!

The Donkervoort Eyewear collection combines very high-quality lenses with the carbon-fibre expertise and design flair Donkervoort drivers are accustomed to.

A design collaboration with exclusive French brand Brett Eyewear, the collection takes the mechanical authenticity from Donkervoort’s cars to deliver exposed carbon-fibre and exposed screws.

The Donkervoort x Brett collection uses only the highest quality materials, including frames made from carbon- fibre plates. The nose pads are made from titanium and the temples are made from stretched titanium.

For maximum driving comfort, Donkervoort x Brett collection glasses fit easily under helmets and use polarized lenses of the highest quality from Leica Eyecare. Brett and Donkervoort chose the highest quality, the Aquadura Vision Pro lens.

The lenses are rated as CR39 (category three, polarized), the lenses minimize reflections to deliver maximum comfort and eye protection when driving.

“It was vitally important to us that the Donkervoort Eyewear collection reflected our own design and development ideals, and we’ve done that,” Donkervoort Marketing Manager Amber Donkervoort said. “It was key that they could be worn with a helmet, which lead to the stretched titanium temples and it was essential that they cut down glare, which dictated polarized lenses. “It was a case of design lead by function, which is also what we do with our cars.”

Inspired by the lines and performance-first design philosophy of Donkervoort, the Donkervoort x Brett collection sunglasses weave in the most iconic elements of the D8 GTO-JD70’s design.

As well as being extremely strong, they are also extremely light. Regular sunglass frames weigh upwards of 25 grams, but Donkervoort Eyewear collection frames are just 15 to 20 grams, making them more comfortable to wear on long days behind the wheel. CR39 is also half the weight of glass.

“The whole BRETT team is very proud to have been able to create this Donkervoort X Brett collection,” Brett Eyewear’s CEO Jean Francois Boiteux said. “The common point between our two brands was obvious: neo-retro design, innovation, lightness, and high-end products ‘without compromise’. Donkervoort was very inspiring for our design and to explore new materials for our pure carbon and pure titanium frames.”

Brett has collaborated with Donkervoort in a big year for the French eyewear operation, which has seen it win the 2021 Red Dot Award for Product Design for its QSTOM concept.
